Gunn Point
Gunn Point Field Savannah Campaign
Abstract
Queensland University of Technology (QUT) participated in the Gunn Point Field Savannah Campaign, held at the Australian Tropical Atmosphere Research Station at Gunn Point, Northern Territory between 28 May and 28 June 2014.
The campaign was conducted in collaboration with the CSIRO, Bureau of Meteorology, University of Wollongong, Macquarie University and Aerodyne Research. Measurements were performed on aerosol primarily emitted from prescribed biomass burning events. Other sources of sampled aerosol may include continental dust and marine emissions, due to the coastal location. QUT contributed to the campaign through measurements performed with the Neutral cluster and Air Ion Spectrometer (NAIS), Aerodyne compact Time of Flight Aerosol Mass Spectrometer (c‐ToF‐AMS), and Volatility and Hygroscopicity Tandem Differential Mobility Analyser (VH‐TDMA). The latter two instruments were deployed in a novel configuration to provide simultaneous volatility‐separated measurement of aerosol chemical composition and hygroscopicity, respectively. The presentation will cover the analysis of the preliminary results as well as discussion on possible directions of future work.
