The Australian Government Bureau of Meteorology is a core participant in the Bushfire Co-operative Research Centre (CRC) through its research centre, BMRC, which is located in Melbourne. The Bureau is involved in three of the five research programs running within the CRC (see table below) and is represented on the CRC's governing board. Program Sub-Program Aim Description
A. 2.1 fire weather forecasting improve forecasting of meteorological variables which impact fire behaviour
B. 2.1 Smoke Management provide timely forecasts of smoke dispersion for smoke management
C. 4 Effective risk communication Improve risk communication between emergency services and the public
