Global Upper Ocean Thermal Data Coverage

Global 150m depth-averaged Temperature Plots

May 2008 June 2008 July 2008 August 2008
September 2008 October 2008 November 2008 December 2008
January 2009 February 2009 March 2009 April 2009

For each month:

  • The upper panel shows Levitus Climatology with Observations,
  • The middle panel shows analysed Temperature field, and
  • The lower panel shows the Temperature Anomaly field.

Global 150m depth-averaged Temperature Analysis Error Plots

May 2008 June 2008 July 2008 August 2008
September 2008 October 2008 November 2008 December 2008
January 2009 February 2009 March 2009 April 2009

For each month:

  • The upper panel shows the absolute anaysis field error,
  • The middle panel shows the normalised estimated analysis error (ANERR/BGFERR), and
  • The lower panel shows a calculation of the observation error at each grid point which for an ideal distribution of one observation per grid point, would yield the absolute analysis error as in the top panel.

All of these plots are produced by the National Meteorological and Oceanographic Centre of the Australian Bureau of Meteorology.

Additional plots are also available dating back to October 2001 and can be obtained by contacting Claire Spillman (C.Spillman@bom.gov.au).
