Summary of Progress

• System configuration completed
• Being transferred to operations (likely to have real-time forecasts by end of June)
• Comprehensive hind-cast set underway (10 ensembles per month from 1980-2005)
• 3 ensemble members completed, full 10 member ensemble by end of June
• Preliminary investigation shows improved skill for NINO prediction and good skill levels for Australian rainfall (more to follow soon)
• Skill for weekly forecasts (out to 6 weeks) being investigated and suite of intra-seasonal products being developed
• Web site will be updated with new products by end of May (including hind-cast and real-time)
• Sample grided forecast datasets available on openDAP server - here

For user ID and password to access openDAP server send email to poama@bom.gov.au with brief summary of proposed use of data.
