MEDIA RELEASE - QUEENSLAND REGIONAL OFFICE

Dust storm moves over the eastern tropics

The extensive dust storms that swept across western and southern Queensland yesterday continued to move north-east last night. The dust storms are now located over the eastern tropics, where visibilities have been reduced to less than 2000 metres in many places. The thick dust is expected to move out to sea during the morning, with only a dust haze persisting over land for the rest of the day.

This rather rare event can still be seen on the Bureau's satellite pictures this morning, but the low-resolution images on the Bureau website do not show the dust very well.
