18 June 2002:  Record June maximum temperatures in New South Wales

Apparently the boy-wonder's parents live in Grafton NSW; and they
experienced 31 degrees yesterday, which is some sort of a June record.
Does anyone out there have any further info on record temperatures in the
current situation and on the relevant synoptics?

It was Sunday that they got the 31. I believe Blair knows the
details of what records were broken.

 Hi John,
Neal Moodie checked these out for me. There have been some records of the
hottest June day in that area.
 Casino 58064 28.3 on 16th June. Previous record 28.2 on 25/6/1973
 Grafton 58130 30.5 on 16th June. Previous record 28.0 on 25/6/1973
 Lismore 58037 28.2 on 16th June. previous record 27.9 on 6/6/1958
 Tabulam 57095 25.3 on 16th June. Previous record 23.5 on 25/6/1973
 Yamba 58012 28.1 on 16th June. Previous record 26.6 on 25/6/1973

There may have been a few more in the area.
 I hope this helps

John,
These are some of the maximum temperature records on Sunday. There were
also high dewpoint temperatures and at least three severe thunderstorms
in the Northern Rivers forecast district.

Sincerely,

According to Blair Trewins web page
http://www.earthsci.unimelb.edu.au/~blair/extremes/staterecord.html
and from what he told us yesterday, the Grafton 30.5 was
the highest June maximum temp for NSW *on record*. (Previous record
was 30.0 at Bourke, 1 June 1923, according to Blairs web page.)

Cheers,
Andrew.
