Subject: [Tropical-storms] Another n=1 Rossby wave in the Indian Ocean.

I can't put any images up as it is a public holiday here (Monday) and I am
typing this on my laptop at home on Sunday night.

There is a nice westerly surge on the equator in the Indian Ocean currently at about 80E, with a cyclonic vorticity couplet on each side of the equator.  The southern member has formed a nice vortex; but the northern one hasn't: possibly because the background westerly flow is too strong.

I am starting to pick these up easily now -- I first noticed this one from the characteristic shape of the cloud patterns, as I looked at the full-disc Indian Ocean image on the Eumetsat site (www.eumetsat.de)

John,

The attached quickscat pass shows what you pointed out quite well, with
a LLCC at about 7S, 81E.

Apologies if the attachment is inordinately large, but I didn't want to
crop it and lose the labels for the LAT LON grids.

best regards,
