These estimates are daily composites of all available passive microwave precipitation estimates from the AMSU-B instrument. Until August 2005 the product used data from three NOAA polar orbiters (NOAA-15, -16 & -17). Starting September 2005 AMSU data from NOAA-18 was included. These estimates are generated by NOAA/NESDIS using the following published algorithm:
